This year our Insurance Charities Awareness Week ran from 19 to 23 June. Over 50,000 insurance employees from more than 300 insurance offices in the UK and Ireland took part. In the month leading up to the awareness week, we packed up and sent out over 550 display boxes and bags.
Our summer newsletter is now out and you can read all about our upcoming Insurance Charities Awareness Week, our partnership with The Silver Line, how we spent our money in 2016/17 and the Insurance Endurance event that is raising money for our charity at a karting event in the UK’s largest karting race track.
The Silver Line helpline – the UK’s only 24 hour free and confidential helpline for older people was launched in November 2013 by the founder of ChildLine Dame Esther Rantzen. DBE Esther had experienced feeling lonely first-hand following the death of her husband, Desmond Wilcox – but recognised the pride felt by the ‘stiff upper lip’ generation that made them reticent to talk about their loneliness. The Silver Line was set up to help break through the stigma of loneliness and isolation, while also tackling problems of abuse and neglect.
We help people and their families through a vast range of issues.
One of the families we have been able to help are the McDonough family. The family first approached us in September 2015 to see if we could help them fund a potentially life-changing operation for their young son Max who has Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diplega. Max’s mum worked in HR for an insurance company and was eligible to receive help from us.
Adrienne O’Sullivan, Trustee, Director and Immediate Past President of The Insurance Charities spoke to Paul from The Irish Broker about what the future holds for The Insurance Charities and the impact we have had in Ireland.
