Living with depression
If you haven’t suffered from depression yourself you probably know someone who has. Maybe you feel you can’t talk to anyone about it and you are all alone trying to cope. But talking to people can make a big difference to how you feel. Friends In Need, part of Mind, is an online community for people in the UK suffering from depression enabling you to meet other people who understand what you are going through.
If you are based in Ireland the charity Aware have a free support line you can call for help and advice. They also have support groups that run across Ireland that can offer free face-to-face support when it’s needed.
Supporting those with autism
Autism Alliance UK is comprised of 18 autism charities across the UK who support those with autism and Asperger’s. Their website provides a huge amount of information concerning autism and also links through to local autism charities.
The Irish Society for Autism provides help and support for those with Autism in Ireland.
Surviving a stroke
The Stroke Association provides information about strokes and what support is available to you in your local area. They also offer grants to those in need of financial help to aid recovery.
Turn 2 Us is a UK charity who help those facing financial hardship to access the support they are entitled to. Their website has a benefits calculator, a grants search tool along with a wealth of information relating to your personal situation.
Step Change UK and Step Change Ireland are a debt charity operating in the UK and Ireland who offer free debt advice. They have advisers who can talk through your debt and offer advice and help on how you can manage and repay the debt, helping you to create a budget and take action.
Our partnership with the housing charity Shelter enables us to refer suitable cases to Shelter to benefit from their in-depth housing advice in conjunction with our help. Shelter can provide specialist help and support to our beneficiaries who need help with issues such as mortgage or rent arrears, domestic abuse and unsuitable properties.
A helpline for older people
We have joined forces with Silver Line to reach older people who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation. Silver Line is a free confidential helpline providing information, friendship, and advice to older people. We can offer our older beneficiaries a weekly phone call or letter from Silver Line or facilitate you being a Silver Line Friend and helping others.
The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF)
The IICF is a nonprofit that enables greater community impact through industry collaboration. Employees and companies can get involved by:
- Raising funds for and engaging with local community nonprofits in areas of education and social mobility.
- Attending events that advocate leadership and diversity as well as raise funds for grants.
- Playing a leadership role on our Board of Directors or Associate Board of young professionals.
- Volunteering during Week of Giving, an annual industry-wide event offering volunteer projects with local nonprofits.
