The International Underwriting Association of London (IUA) and Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA) are taking part in Christmas jumper day (yes it’s a thing!) on Friday 15 December and asking people to don a festive sweater and donate £5 to raise money for our charity.
All money raised from the Christmas Jumper Day will go towards funding a domestic abuse toolkit for employers to support victims of abuse and help identify and promote behaviour change for perpetrators. The toolkit will be one of a suite of publications distributed by Business in the Community to be launched initially into the insurance industry in summer 2018.
Peter Staddon, Managing Director of the MGAA, and a Board member of The Insurance Charities also sits on our Grants committee. Peter was motivated to take part in Christmas Jumper Day as he sees firsthand through his role on the Grants committee what domestic abuse can do, how it can tear families apart and destroy lives. We have people apply to us for help who have had to leave their homes with nothing and start their lives again.
Each year nearly two million people in the UK suffer some form of domestic abuse and 130,000 children live in homes where there is high-risk domestic abuse. We want to raise awareness of this issue within the insurance sector and give employers the tools to help and support victims.
If you would like to take part in the day you can hold a Christmas Jumper Day in your office.
We’ll leave you with a festive poem from Peter:
