Our annual Golf Day took place this year at Collingtree Park Golf course in the Midlands with 16 teams playing for the coveted Julius Neave trophy. We were joined on the day by insurance employees from around the UK who enjoyed 18 holes of golf followed by dinner in the clubhouse. Last year’s winner, Darren Vickery, was in attendance to defend his title playing in the Chelmsford and South Essex Institute team.
The day started promisingly, cloudy but warm, players met in the clubhouse for bacon rolls and coffee before collecting their scorecards and lunch bags ready to take up their positions around the course. The competition began at 11am with a shotgun start which was played following the Stableford individual competition format. We had our in-house golf expert and Board member, Kirsten Watson, on hand to answer any golf questions and she made up a four-ball on the day.
With some excellent players on the green and despite the rain making an appearance, the competition was of a high standard and the final scores reflected this. With just one point in it, Darren Vickery took top place again for the second year in a row with a score of 39. Just below, in second place was Paul Buckle, playing in Team Willis Towers Watson with 38 points and third place was taken by Richard Lee playing on Team BIBA with a score of 36 points. The team award went to Team Allsorts with a score of 90. Team Allsorts comprised of The Insurance Institutes of Reading’s golf winner, Gareth Ford, David Smith and Andrew McKay from TB Asset Management and our Board member, Kirsten Watson.
Competitions were held for nearest the pin, longest drive and nearest the pin in 2. The winners were Julian Flower playing on Team Ageas, Freddie Taylor playing on Team AXIS and Ross Martin playing on Team Chelmsford and South Essex.
The prize giving took place during the evening meal and was followed by a raffle and an auction. The incredible generosity of those in attendance meant we raised almost £700 on the night. The money raised will be used to help those in need of our help and support.
We had a fantastic range of prizes in the raffle, the majority of which were donated to us by insurance companies. Prizes ranged from a helicopter flight to a fitness tracker to a signed Saracen’s rugby ball to one of our Insurance Charities deckchairs. Thank you to the following companies for donating a gift to our raffle: Allianz, AXA, Ecclesiastical. Hiscox, James Hallam, MGAA, Virginia Hayward and Willis Towers Watson. A special thank you to our event sponsor, Focus Oxford Risk Management.
We’d like to say a huge thank to everyone who came and made the day such a great success and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s event! A selection of photos from the day are below.
