The Insurance Charities rely heavily
on local institutes both to publicise their work and
provide vital financial support. Local representatives
may personally carry out both the visiting and publicity
tasks or divide the role between two or more people,
particularly where a large institute area is involved.
The President has an opportunity, during his year of
office, to support the local representative in his
work and to publicise the Charities at institute meetings
and other functions.
We recognise that often local institutes will want
to fund-raise for a second charity alongside The
Insurance Charities. Fund-raising for a well known
or possibly a local charity as well as The Insurance
Charities can reach a wider audience than might otherwise
be the case. Institutes can use the stories on this
website to illustrate how The Insurance Charities
provide help in a wide range of distressing circumstances.
Each year at the CII's Annual Conference the Centenary
Charity Shield is presented to the institute which
is considered to have made the most noteworthy fund-raising
effort over the year. Each institute is also listed
in our table of donations.
We can help institutes in their fund-raising and
publicity activities by:
- Supplying our video which features some of those
who have been helped over the past year
- Giving a
short presentation about our work at a meeting
or dinner
- Supplying newly updated publicity material
for local distribution
- Providing the necessary
registration for locally arranged draws where
the total proceeds will benefit The Insurance Charities
- Recommending
publications which provide fund-raising ideas
Local institutes can help us by:
- Ensuring that publicity material is distributed
to all insurance companies and intermediaries
in their area
- Establishing a contact with each Human
Resources manager to ensure that any potential
cases needing help are referred to us at an early
stage
- Including The Insurance Charities as an agenda
item at each meeting
- Planning a structured fund-raising
and publicity programme at the beginning of each
year for which we can provide appropriate support
- Ensuring
that an effective dialogue exists between the
institute and the Charities' Secretariat
