Frances' story
Frances worked at Swiss Re for many years, including
part-time as a temp once she had become the proud
Mum of two small children. She and her husband had,
however, become increasingly concerned about their
son’s development and, at the age of three,
their worst fears were confirmed when he was diagnosed
with autism.
Wanting to give their son every chance of getting
out of the world he was rapidly retreating into,
they set about investigating what help was available
for autistic children. They found out about a programme
which, through an intensive daily programme of one-to-one
therapy, seemed to be successful in helping autistic
children interact with others. Their hopes of embarking
upon the programme, however, appeared to be dashed
when they found out the cost involved and the fact
that their local authority would not be able to help
financially.
Frances remembered the name of The Insurance Charities
from a time in the past when she helped with the
annual Charities collection. Just a few days later
we were able to confirm substantial support which
has enabled Frances’ son to take advantage
of the one-to-one help over the past two years. Frances
explains on our new video just what this support
has meant to her and her family.
